Bamboo, an adventurous plant

Bamboo is an adventurous plant, conjuring up faint memories of warmer climes in your garden, of paradises. Although with our winters and fickle summers we are unable to create any tropical dream gardens, we are sometimes surprised nonetheless by the existence of plants that thrive tremendously in our climate and that do indeed exude an exotic character.

One person will experience the confrontation as a pleasant shock of recognition. Another will soak in the dramatic effect of the different leaf shapes. And the ever-singing rustle of bamboos in the wind is totally free.

Imagine a garden dominated by broad-leaved plants, interspersed with plants with filigree-thin leaves. Naturally the shape of the plant has to be striking. But the most important thing of all is that the plant is primarily evergreen, for a garden that looks bare in the winter constantly reminds us of the harsh reality that we live in a climate with cold winters. If you take the trouble to look at the evergreen bamboos, then you’ll see what we mean.

Bamboo, a versatile plant

In some cultures a person is accompanied by bamboo literally from the cradle to the grave. The umbilical cord of the newborn is cut using a bamboo knife, the child is rocked to sleep in a bed of bamboo. The house in which they live is made of bamboo. The food they eat always contains an ingredient made from bamboo shoots, and when they die the deceased is carried to his final place of rest on a bamboo pole.

Although bamboo is predominantly an ornamental plant in the Netherlands, there is in the protective shade of bamboos several metres high a Dutch house in which the Western world’s first bamboo flooring floor was laid over 15 years ago, and indeed it is still lying there beautifully. This house is in the Bamboo Park in Schellinkhout.

Bamboo site

There is no bigger difference with the blocks of faceless shoeboxes that you see everywhere, especially on areas devoid of trees and greenery alongside the motorway. It is difficult to conceive of a better biotope for bamboo.

At the place where generally the most work is being done on promoting bamboo, it is getting the pride of place it deserves. Nowhere else is information on bamboo being given out so thoroughly and so comprehensively. In fact it speaks for itself: if you want to buy your greens you go to the greengrocer. The most reliable place for fish is undoubtedly the fishmonger. And you can work out for yourself what the most logical place is for acquiring bamboo in all its varieties.

PLYBOO®, preach and practice

We stand – unreservedly – for the conviction that action speaks louder than words. We advise, we guide, we grow and we buy. We go for bamboo with distinction. For that reason our patio decking, bridge decking and our flooring are among the very best that can be produced using bamboo.

Fargesias or ornamental bamboos https://www.bamboe-ic.nl/de/fargesia
At the annual plant trade show in Essen, it is not so long ago that the Fargesia was proclaimed bamboo of the year.
For your delectation we have cultivated a large number of the most beautiful Fargesia species for the 2011 season. These are non-parasitic bamboos and they are much requested as a result.

Fargesia is undoubtedly the most suitable bamboo for use as a hedgerow. It is also increasingly held in esteem as the bamboo plant for patio and balcony, because Fargesias form in clumps, are relatively dense and highly flexible.

Due to the properties above, and because they do not grow too tall, they are the most wind-resistant of all bamboos in a box or container.
Forming as it does in clumps, the Fargesia on its own is also an ornament for your garden that can almost not be rivalled, both in the middle of summer and in the depths of winter.(Click here)

Balcony and patio bamboos

Now it doesn’t have to be like this at your house! But it did have to be like this at the annual Dutch Forestry Commission. Bamboos on the balcony of the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) in Amsterdam, bamboos on the roof, even bamboos in the roof gutter! Everyone was able to gape at this green spectacle in the heart of the capital.

The most bamboo-like bamboos:
With us you will find, in addition to a large number of species of bamboos, the bamboo that appeals more to the imagination than any other in Northern Europe, the Phyllostachys vivax 'Aureocaulis', in more than sufficient quantities.

We are the exclusive stockists of this plant in the Netherlands, from 100-litre container pot to a small beginner’s plant of 1 litre.

PHYLLOSTACHYS, the most bamboo-like of bamboos (let 's youngle your garden!)

Of all the hardy, evergreen bamboos that grow in Northern Europe the Phyllostachys variety is, due to its stem formation and spectacular growth, undoubtedly the most bamboo-like bamboo around.

What to one person is a parasitic bamboo is to another person a plant with a tendency to grow profusely and enthusiastically. Here in the Bamboo Park the strong tendency to grow shared by most bamboos is always accompanied by a selection of friendly synonyms. If you manage to keep the natural growth of your Phyllostachi somewhat under control in your garden, then you will be rewarded with what you will experience in this park for a time, short or otherwise: the feeling of walking in the clouds, in a kind of pocket paradise.
